(Rules) Character Advancement

Stats

As you might have noticed, Myth doesn’t have classes or XP. This makes character advancement very different from most other systems. Characters have to take certain actions in the game to earn EVs. The DM keeps track of how many EVs each character has, and when a character has certain number one type of EV, the EVs are traded for a point in whatever they were for.

Core Stats: To earn a core stat EV a character must succeed a core stat-based check to perform an action which is really awesome. Three core stat EVs are worth one point of the stat. In special cases of win, a DM may choose to grant two core EVs instead of one.

Proficiency: To earn a proficiency EV a character must roll a natural 20 when rolling to hit. Four pro EVs are worth one point of proficiency in the weapon type they used.

Abilities: To earn an ability EV, a character succeed an ability-based check to perform an action which is really awesome. Two ability EVs are worth one rank in the ability.

Don’t forget that every point you earn in Strength after 3 gives you 3 HP, and every point you earn in Stamina after 3 gives you 3 AP.

Alternatively, characters can usually improve stats through training or studying.

Learning New Abilities

Normally (if you’re not using Archetypes) the only way for a character to learn new abilities is to learn them from someone, but it’s possible in some cases to gain an ability simply by making a check to perform whatever the ability is.
